Perfect for newer paddlers, families, or those who want some time to relax. Our three day option involves setting up "base camp" on a beautiful gulf facing beach for 2 nights.
Days are spent exploring the estuary by kayak, wildlife spotting and cruising through the "tunnels," with nights gathered around the campfire.
**Subject to change based on tides/weather**
Day 1: 6-8 miles
Paddle from the Everglades Gulf Coast Visitor center through Indian Key Pass to our beach Campsite. We'll break for lunch halfway on a shell , usually arrive to camp by 2 or 3 pm to set up. Dinner will be served on the beach in view of the setting sun.
Day 2: 8-9 miles.
This is our free day to do a fun paddle then returning to the same camp. Starting with a hearty cooked breakfast we will paddle through the estuary to visit a indigenous built midden(shell mound island) where we will have lunch and a short hike through the forest searching for remnants of long forgotten human settlement. On the return journey we pass a few mangrove tunnels that are optional to explore. Dinner and a campfire again in time for sunset.
Day 3: 6-8 miles.
Start the morning with hot coffee and breakfast, then pack up camp for the return journey. Generally we take a different route on the way back and explore the mangrove "maze" before crossing Chokoloskee bay and landing once again at the Visitor Center.
This tour is suitable for reasonably fit beginners ages 13-72. Keep in mind sea kayaking is a physical activity that may require paddling against tides or headwind. We try to take ample breaks but may be seated in the kayaks for up to 2 hours at time. Participants should be comfortable getting in and out of a Sea Kayak with enclosed cockpit at ground level with or without reasonable assistance.
Each trip is fully outfitted. We provide all meals starting with lunch on the first day and ending with lunch on the last day, accommodations can be made for those with food allergies or special dietary restrictions. We also provide tents, kayaks, paddling and safety equipment, dry bags, and a professional guide.
